I Know Him!!!
My little brother is a rock star! And if you want further proof, watch this video, Peter’s the one with the drums and the tank-top. Do your best to ignore the middle-age anchors trying to act cool, they’re not.
The Varied Effects of Blogstalking
I am a Blogstalker. I can’t help it. I’ve always been overly interested in other people’s lives and now that everyone and their dog (literally, in some cases) has their own blog, I’m growing worse. It started out with my cousin April, who writes the best blog known to mankind, and from there I started reading all my cousin’s blogs. It’s great. It’s like Quilt Retreat every day. (Or every week, depending on the blogger.)
It was when I started reading close and not-so-close friend’s blogs that I discovered the slippery slope that is Blogstalking. It’s always an accident, I’m casually reading along about so-and-so’s latest craft project or their sick child and I notice on the sidebar a name I recognize. Maybe it’s someone I knew way-back-when, or possibly just a name I’ve heard come up in conversation. And before I know it I’m reading all the crazy, personal details they feel they can post because, “No one but my close, personal friends read this anyway.”
WRONG! I read it! Every day! It’s a sickness and I can’t stop.
The real danger in Blogstalking comes when this false sense of friendship migrates from your computer to your real life.
And now, a not-so-personal antidote: My sister has the same illness as me, being nosey is genetic, after all. She started out reading a friend’s blog, perfectly innocent. Then she started reading her friend’s sister’s blog. That’s not so bad, she’s met the sister a time or two, they’re acquainted. But then she “accidentally” started reading her friend’s sister’s husband’s blog. This is less in the moral grey area and more in the moral black area of Blogstalking.
Luckily, Blogstalking is the ultimate guilty pleasure; no one ever has to know about it unless you A) write about it on your blog where only your close, personal friends will read about it. Or B) you go to school with the person you’re Blogstalking and you accidentally greet him like you’re actually friends.
I guess it serves him right for putting all the crazy, personal details of his life on the internet for everyone to read.
On a loosely related note, how is it that everyone I used to know and now only read about has a baby? Or two, in some extreme cases. I swear it hasn’t been that long since we were all living in the same small town, going to school together and braiding each other’s hair. And now they’re all married and have kids! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!?
Okay, I know how it’s possible, no need for an anatomy lesson. But really, we’re all so young. It stands to reason that some people are going to have kids, but how is it that everybody has a baby, even the girls that are quite a bit younger than me? Not to be belittling of anyone’s life choices, I’m really happy for you, I am just shocked that we are old enough for such things. I am pretty sure if I had a baby he/she/it would take one look at me and think, “Great, another knocked-up teenager. Lucky me.”
And besides, it doesn’t seem like there’s been enough time for everyone to make this happen. I mean, it was just yesterday we were actual friends, not just this creepy stalker/stalkee thing we’ve got going now. How did they find the time to meet someone, date for six months, be engaged for three and then have a bun in the oven for nine?
Maybe there’s something in the water. Which, incidentally, explains why I don’t have a baby. I don’t drink tap water.
Show and Tell
I had the best weekend! The sun was shining, I got lots done, but didn’t feel rushed and I even remembered to take lots of pictures so I could play show and tell on my blog. I was proud.
But first, a disclaimer. My camera has this really cool feature that lets me size pictures before I upload them, which I did. But I am now discovering this makes the pictures grainy. So, none of these pictures are good, partly because of the resizing mishap and partly because they weren’t really that great to begin with. But they’ll give you a general idea, it’s better than nothing.
Friday Dave and I went to a Utes Gymnastics meet with our good friends and their cute baby.

Doesn’t his hair remind you of a baby chicken?
The Utes were, of course, amazing. But, what else is new?
Saturday was such a beautiful day I rolled the windows down when we were out running errands.

And you’ll notice I’m not wearing a coat, although I did bring it, just in case.
First we went to Auto Zone to buy brake pads. Okay, Dave went to Auto Zone, I went to the corner gas station for Diet Coke. I was channeling my mother. Then we went to the grocery store, which normally I love, but Dave was in a hurry to get home to his project so I didn’t get to walk up and down every isle like I usually do, (except the pet isle, which makes me throw up in my mouth a little) looking at all the different kinds of produce and pasta and cheese (oh my!), taking notes on what I want to make in the upcoming weeks. Shopping’s my favorite! But not today, we were in, we bought what was on the list, and we were out. Sad day.
When we got home I cleaned the house, including my fridge.

I took this picture because it looks so nice and neat and it really got me excited for the weeks worth of cooking I have planned. You’ll notice the beets, which I’m going to try roasting. Don’t judge, I love beets. I’m also making ribs and fried chicken this week (not in the same night). I’m feeling a little Southern.
And Dave changed my brake pads.

I love that he knows how to do that, and he looks so cute!
Some friends came over for dinner. We had pasta, garlic bread, salad and fresh strawberries and grapes. And for dessert I made blackberry Crème Brule, which was delicious.

Everyone had to have a turn with the blowtorch.

Carefully supervised by a “nervous” Dave.

At least that’s his story, but I think he’s just a pyro.

And the best part of the whole night was that while I visited with my friends my sweet husband did all the dishes. He is so nice to me.
Sunday Dave wasn’t feeling very well (two Crème Brules with dinner, and then ice cream and Dr. Pepper before bed would make me sick too) so we skipped Stake Conference and I spent the morning making these delightful little cookies.

And this beautiful ice cream concoction.

I’m not going to lie, this isn’t mine. But mine turned out really pretty and it was surprisingly easy. I have big plans for different flavor combinations.
Our good friends the Soffes invited us to dinner (thus the dessert making).

This is Lucy, she’s very into making faces right now.
Lucy took most of these pictures, it’s kind of fun to see things from her perspective.

We are so dorky.

Zeke is getting so big and chatty. He danced to High School Musical for us earlier in the evening (thus the b-ball jersey). I’ve never been so entertained.

Obviously Lucy didn’t take this one, but it’s just so sweet.
It was a great weekend, all in all. I feel very fortunate to have such good friends, and even more fortunate that I’m married to my best friend. He makes everything more fun.

The end.
Team Toronto!
We’ve been superheroed. Sweet.

Here's Dave in all his superhero glory. We're thinking the flame thrower in combination with the cape may be ill advised.

I feel that the whip is really important to my character develpoment.
Our Wedding
Yes, you’ve all seen this. But I just want it to be here so I can watch it whenever I want (which is often, I’m obsessed) and so the beginning of our story will be here with…well, the rest of the story. Our wedding was beautiful, wasn’t it? But I have high hopes that our life together will be even better.
